As we start
the New Year, we realize we still have a lot of ground to cover in meeting our
goals. It currently appears that NASA should achieve our negotiated FY13 small
business goal; however, we will again fall short of achieving the statutory
goals for Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone), Women-Owned Small
Business (WOSB) and Service-Disabled
Veteran–Owned Small Business (SDVOSB).
In an effort to achieve these goals in the future, NASA developed a
Small Business Improvement Plan for fiscal years 2014 and 2015, which includ
the following three initiatives:
1)
In reach to the
NASA Community: Strengthen small
business awareness and opportunities through stakeholder advocacy, training,
and participation through existing resources.
2)
Outreach and
Social Media: Enhance small business
awareness of NASA mission requirements through traditional and non-traditional
outreach methodologies.
3)
Procurement: Improve Agency small business contracting
performance through evaluating and evolving procurement guidance.
Each of
these initiatives contains several objectives that outline how they will be
accomplished and each of them is required to be measureable, affordable, and
achievable.
I will keep
you updated on our progress and will inform you of upcoming outreach events, to
give you greater access to our upcoming requirements.
